In approximately 2012, it's alleged that the Chinese shopping site known as Taobao suffered a data breach that impacted over 21 million subscribers. Whilst there is evidence that the data is legitimate, due to the difficulty of emphatically verifying the Chinese breach it has been flagged as "unverified". In approximately 2012, the Russian social media site known as VK was hacked and almost 100 million accounts were exposed. The data emerged in June 2016 where it was being sold via a dark market website and included names, phone numbers email addresses and plain text passwords.
