January 12, 2015 • The Mexican government is suspected of using NSO Group spyware to compromise the personal devices of journalists, lawyers, activists, scientists, politicians, and civil society organizations. One of the victims is Carmen Aristegui, the director of Aristegui Noticias which reported on the "Casa Blanca scandal" which implicated the Mexican President's wife.

January 11, 2015 • Extratorrent, the world's number 4 torrent website is taken down by a DDOS attack.

January 9, 2015 CyberCaliphate, a pro-IS group takes control of the Twitter accounts of the Albuquerque Journal, and CBS affiliate WBOC. The attackers also took over WBOC's website. The hackers used the intrusions to post sensitive documents stolen from government servers in Stewart County, TN.

January 2, 2015 • A hacker called Muhmad Emad defaces two Turkish government websites belonging to the Afyonkarahisar Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management, asking the Turkish government to stop supporting the ISIS terrorist group.
